Language:

Students are currently studying the differences and similarities between Non-Fiction and Fiction texts in preparation for our novel study Holes. In order for students to engage in more challenging reading and writing tasks during their novel study, I model for them how to engage more deeply with texts. Our current reading of Mary Had A Little Lamb is providing students with an opportunity to re-think and extend what they thought they already knew. Our guiding question for our novel study is ,'Are all crimes wrong?". Similarly to our Titanic unit on Non-Fiction, students will be assessing evidence, providing evidence and explanations for their thinking.

Math:

The class recently told me that they hate fractions because they "don't make sense." I have a big task in front of me! I have given the class a diagnostic test to determine what they actually know, and a few trends have emerged in the areas of equivalent fractions and representing fractional amounts. With this data, I have begun planning a unit that will, I hope, engage my students and deliver the curriculum in as interesting and dynamic a way possible.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you in the days to come!
